Special education is defined under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) as specially designed instruction, at no cost to parents, to meet the unique needs of a student with a disability.  Related services are supportive services that are required to assist a student with a disability to benefit from special education.

 

Fabens ISD provides a continuum of educational programs and support services in the least restrictive environment (to the maximum extent appropriate) for all students identified with a disability. Our mission is to improve student performance academically, emotionally and socially, in order for our students to achieve the individual goals that will allow them to be successful and contributing members of their community while they are in school and after graduation.

 

Additionally, our district Response to Intervention (RtI) process is implemented in a way that does not unduly delay or deny special education evaluations where students are suspected of having disabilities and needing special education services.  A referral for a special education evaluation can occur at any point in the RtI process, as RtI is not required prior to referral for special education.
