Fabens suffered a tragedy on the weekend of September 1st as junior Karina Perez passed away.
Later that week, Wildcats wore white and with the help of Student Council organized a balloon release at Veterans Park to honor Karina and to say their last goodbyes.
"We thought it was important for everyone to come together and be there for Karina's family and friends," STUCO member Reina Gonzalez said.
"This tragedy was just another example of how much everyone cares for one another in Fabens," Gonzalez said.
Friends told us that she left behind many memories, smiles, and laughs.
"She had a big heart and she was always happy. She always had a smile on her face," senior Cynthia Nunez said.
Senior Odeth Perez was her cousin. "She was a very joyful person. She would carry around a smile, she was a person of trust," Perez said.
Fabens High School sends it's condolences, thoughts, and prayers to Karina's family and friends.
